5 Steps to a Clean ITE Hearing Aid

Your hearing aid is an investment in your health, and you want to ensure you do all you can to keep it in good condition. It’s important to properly clean and store your hearing aid when it’s not in use. Never wear it in the shower, and avoid storing it in areas that experience extreme temperatures. Here are five steps you should complete daily to keep your hearing aid clean and working at its best. First, you should wipe off your hearing aid with a clean cloth or an alcohol-free hearing aid wipe. Then use a soft-bristled hearing aid brush to clear debris out of the microphone and speaker ports. If there is still wax lodged in the microphone or speaker ports, use a wax pick to get in the grooves and remove it. Also, if a wax filter covers the speaker ports, inspect it to determine whether or not it is clogged and needs to be replaced. Finally, store your hearing aid in a dehumidifier to ensure excess moisture doesn’t build up inside.
